How to Argue Effectively & Win

How to Argue Effectively & Win

It can be difficult for people to get their point across without hurting one another in the process. Here are some tips for effectively resolving a problem by stating your views, while being collected and reasonable. Also included are tips on winning an argument.

Stay calm & Keep a steady low tone. The energy you give off is usually picked up on by the other person; if you are calm they sense you mean no harm and relax more. Even if you get emotional, try to keep your dignity and don’t lash out unexpectedly. Also consider your tone of voice; try to keep a steady, low tone and volume, not fluctuating to much in speed and sound. Try to sound as relaxed as possible and avoid high-pitched sounds. Also consider your body language: have a good firm posture that makes your feel powerful but not agressive.
Don’t insult the other person. Avoid to, in any way, say something that might be taken as an insult. When people are angry they are much more sensitive and will take even the smallest comment as an insult.
Express that you are willing to listen to the other person and respect them. Even though you might not agree with what the other person is saying you need to remember that they might feel just as strongly about their views as you do about yours.
Be reasonable. The outcome of the argument might not be exactly what you wanted, but never expect to get everything you want.
Don’t let it last too long, the argument degrades if it’s held out.
Allow each person to speak and make their point.
Set healthy boundaries. If the person with whom you are arguing is angry, obnoxious or verbally abusive, should you really be interacting with them? It may be better to walk away.
If the argument is with a clerk, salesperson, etc. ask to speak with their supervisor. If a supervisor isn’t immediately available, get a phone number.

Winning an Argument -

  • Think about the possible arguments for and against your side, and the opposite side. If there is any major weakness in your argument, you must fill it before coming to a confrontation with the opposition, or risk losing the argument.
  • Identify any major pitfalls your opponent can step into. A gentle nudge here and there to get them to make some sort of fallacious statement that allows you to close the bear trap is psychologically damaging and can win an argument on the spot. Also try to take each argument to its logical conclusion.
  • Always take full advantage of any illogicality or fallacy in your opponent’s argument. Return any illogical points with as many relevant logical facts as possible, to completely quash their point. If this is not possible, take their point and use it in your favor logically.
  • It’s always possible to lose an argument, especially if your argument has major weaknesses. Accept it if thats the case. However, arguments do sometimes come to standoffs, where no side is stronger than the other and nobody wins or loses. when this happens, learn to leave the argument as nothing can be gained by continuing to confront your opponent. When this happens, don’t lose control or get desperate.

The World's Most Exotic Pets

The World's Most Exotic Pets

Monkeys, Lions and Chimpanzees are animals we often see in the wild or on the Discovery Channel. The following are some exotic albeit expensive pets that can be legally bought. These animals, however do come with a heavy price tag and that is not including the upkeep.
The World's Most Exotic Pets
13. Bengal Cat

Price Tag: $800-$3,000

Image

The Bengal Cat is bred by mating a domestic black shorthaired cat with an Asian Leopard cat. As with many hybrids the goal is to create a domestic cat in size and demeanor with the exotic Asian Leopard Cat appearance and coloring. As with most hybrid cats, the breed becomes more and more domesticated with each successive generation, therefore the ideal domesticated breed would be at least three to five generations removed from the original breed.

12. Snow Macaque

Price Tag: $3,500

Image

The Snow Macaque is considered a threatened species as we continue to encroach on more and more of the animal's habitat. Due to this fact, coveted licenses and special permits are mandated to own this very rare animal. The Snow Macaque is a smaller primate with a lifespan of over 25 years with the distinguishing feature of a hairless red face.

9. Savannah Cat

Price Tag: $4,000-$10,000

Image

Bred in a similar process to the Bengal Cat, the Savannah Cat is bred by mating the African Serval with a smaller domestic cat. The Savannah inherently has a much more difficult breeding process, because an African Serval is 40lbs and undomesticated and breeding it with a domestic house cat is problematic. Concurrently, the gestation periods between the two animals are different. Due to these factors, the Savannah is a more expensive and rare breed of cat.

8. Mona Guenon

The Deadliest Creatures (Most Easy to Miss)

The Deadliest Creatures (Most Easy to Miss)

The deadliest (and easy to miss) critters lurk in dark silence, ready to strike with either the barest of warnings or none at all - and with absolutely fatal venom.

1. The Cone Snail: can kill you in less than 4 minutes

Say, for instance, you happen to be happily walking through the low surf merrily picking up and discarding shells, looking for just the right one to decorate your desk back at the office.

With no warning at all, however, you feel a sharp sting from one of those pretty shells -- a sting that quickly flares into a crawling agony. With that quick sting, the cone snail's barbed spear has insidiously injected you with one of the most potent neurotoxins in existence.

2. Poison Arrow Frog: Lethal Touch

That frog over there, for instance: that tiny, brilliantly colored tree frog. Doesn't he look like some kind of Faberge ornament, there against that vermilion leaf? Wouldn't such a natural jewel look just gorgeous in a terrarium back home?

Pick him and you'll be dead in a matter of minutes. One second frolicking in the undergrowth, the next spasming and foaming on the jungle floor. No stinger, no bite, no venom: just the shimmering slime covering his brilliant body.

"They are the only animal in the world known to be able to kill a human by touch alone. They can jump as far as 2 inches."

 3. The lazy clown of the insect world.

The adult moth is just a moth, but the hairs of the caterpillar are juicy with nasty stuff, so nasty that dozens of people die every year from just touching them. By the way, it’s not a good way to go, either: their venom is a extremely powerful anticoagulant, death happening as the blood itself breaks down. Not fun. Very not fun.

4. Beaked Sea Snake

Another creature of nightmares that doesn’t come with a theme song is a strange import to the world aquatica. When you think snake you usually think of dry land. But if you go paddling around the Persian Gulf (or coastal islands of India) keep a wary eye out for the gently undulating wave of Enhydrina Schistosa.

5. Stone Fish waits for you to step on it

But it’s not time to leave the sea quite yet. There are two nasty things in the blue depths you should spend many a sleepless night frightened of. For the big one you’ll have to wait a bit, for the one right below it in terrifying lethality you just have to watch your step when you’re walking along the bottom of the ocean.

6. Box Jellyfish should really be called the "coffin" jellyfish

Chironex fleckeri: a tiny jellyfish found off the coast of Australia and southeastern Asia. Only about sixteen inches long, it has four eye-clusters with twenty-four eyes, its tentacles carry thousands of nematocysts, microscopic stingers activated not by ill-will but by a simple brush against shell, or skin. Do this and they fire, injecting anyone and anything with the most powerful neurotoxin known.

As you can see on the top left of the image below, it's pretty hard to notice Chironex Fleckeri in the wild:

Hacks to Beat Rapidshare Download Limits and Waiting Time

Here are some hints to help you more efficiently use rapidshare. Skipping waiting time and bypassing download limits are rapidshare hacks that everybody should know. These tips have been retested and continue to work well. Updated Oct, 2010.

Rapidshare has been an excellent tool for sharing large files. Recently users have discovered ways of bypassing the download limits and skipping waiting times.
Several readers have emailed recently (Oct 2010) that these methods continue to work well.
Update: Two new methods of bypassing download limits have been posted. These are more advanced and may require additional software or hardware, but you should check them out when you are done with these easier methods:
Rapidshare traces the users IP address to limit each user to a certain amount of downloading per day. To get around this, you need to show the rapidshare server a different IP address.
Here are some methods for doing this:
1. Short-Out the JavaScript:
    1. Goto the page you want to download
    2. Select FREE button
    3. In the address bar put the following: javascript:alert(c=0)
    4. Click OK
    5. Click OK to the pop-up box
    6. Enter the captcha
    7. Download Your File
2. Request a new IP address from your ISP server.
Here’s how to do it in windows:
    1. Click Start
    2. Click run
    3. In the run box type cmd.exe and click OK
    4. When the command prompt opens type the following. ENTER after each new line.
    ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    exit
    5. Erase your cookies in whatever browser you are using.
    6. Try the rapidshare download again.
Frequently you will be assigned a new IP address when this happens. Sometime you will, sometimes you will not. If you are on a fixed IP address, this method will not work. To be honest, I do not know how to do this in linux/unix/etc. If this works for you, you may want to save the above commands into a batch file, and just run it when you need it.
3. Use a proxy with SwitchProxy and Firefox:
4. Use an anonymous service:
Running your system through the tor network should in theory work; however, it is difficult to use and setup. Plus, you allow others to run their evil deeds through your system as well by using this system. Anonymizer 2005 is inexpensive, easy to use, but not free. Other pay services would likely work as well.
5. You can use a bookmarklet to stop your wait times:
    1. Open IE
    2. Right Click On This Link
    3. Select Add to Favorites
    4. Select Yes to the warning that the bookmark may be unsafe.
    5. Name it “RapidShare No Wait”
    6. Click on the Links folder (if you want to display it in your IE toolbar)
    7. Click OK
    8. You may need to close and reopen IE to see it
    9. Goto rapidshare and click the bookmarklet when you are forced to wait
If you find additional rapidshare hints, please post them in the comments below!

How-To Hack the Rapidshare Download Limit and Waiting Time

We all know how it is – you’re rushing to get something done and it turns out the files you need are only available on Rapidshare. So you have to wait 30 seconds for each individual file and can download only 1 file per day. Seriously?  Who wants to pay to get a bunch of files that aren’t even 100% guaranteed to work?  Well today we’ll show you a few ways to bypass the waiting time and download limit on Rapidshare without paying a single cent!

Wait Time Hack

First, open up any link with a Rapidshare download and click Free User.
image
Then in the address bar type in javascript:alert(c=0) and press Enter.
image
A message will appear that won’t show anything else but the number 0, go ahead and clickOK on the message.
image
The download button will immediately appear and you should be able to begin downloading right away (note: this trick doesn’t always work, Rapidshare has partially fixed it, so experiment with different browsers and different java settings).

Download Limit Hacks

Method 1 – Requesting a New IP Address

Go to the Start Menu and type in cmd. When the command prompt appears, pressCtrl+Shift+Enter to run it as an administrator (or just right click and select Run As Administrator).
image
Type in these commands pressing Enter after writing each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
The renew command will take the longest amount of time. Wait patiently until the process is finished. Once everything is done just exit the Command Prompt.
image
Now just clear the cookies in the browser that you’re using and attempt the Rapidshare download again. Do note that if you are on a static IP address this method will not work.

Method 2 – Using a Web Browser Private Tab

This will work only for two downloads. After reaching your limit of 1 download, just open up:
From within each browser you should be able to make one extra download so that makes three extra downloads in total. This is perhaps the easiest way to avoid the limit, instead of renewing your IP every time.

Method 3 – Using an Online Service for a Secure Connection

There are lots and lots of services on the web that offer users a so called “tunnel” through where they can pass and remain fully anonymous to anyone on the web. Without this kind of service your IP address and other personal information is exposed to all websites you visit and that is exactly what Rapidshare uses to nag us with it’s annoying download limit. You can try any service like HideMyIP or Anonymizer. It’s true that none of the sites that offer this service offer it for free, but it’s worth the money. Not only can you trick Rapidshare, you can also stay protected on the web no matter where you go.
So tell us what you think? Did the methods work for you and do you think it’s worth getting a Rapidshare Premium account? Leave us a quick comment below and stay on the lookout for more hacks!
